Process of Getting SIA Security Licence
1. Pass the SIA Training

2. SIA Assessment
SIA assessment has two parts: multiple choice questions and a practical assessment, which you must pass to be eligible for the licence.
3. Start the SIA Licence Application
After passing your SIA assessment, start your SIA licence application on the SIA website. Complete the application, submit your application processing fee and you are done. The SIA will contact you within 25 working days.
4. Identity and Criminal Record Checks
You’ll need to complete identity checks to satisfy SIA; for that, you can provide your photo ID and other identity documents. SIA will verify your identity and do criminal record checks to ensure that you are eligible to apply. Make sure you provide all the required documents along with the application. If you have spent six months or more abroad, you might have to provide supporting evidence for that.
5. Receive Your SIA Licence
If you successfully pass all the security and identity checks, you’ll get your SIA licence in the post. Your SIA licence is valid for the next three years.
Can You Practise in Security Industry Without SIA Security Licence?
An SIA security licence is a mandatory legal requirement to work in a security company, and strict action is taken against individuals practising in the industry without an SIA licence. Any individual illegally operating without a licence might face six months imprisonment or a penalty of up to £5,000.
